MR Screening Questions

  1. You will be asked to list all the surgical procedures you’ve had in your lifetime.
  2. If you have had a reaction to contrast medium used for an MRI, please let us know.
  3. If you have anemia or any disease affecting your blood, please let us know.
  4. If you have a history of kidney disease or seizures, please let us know.
  5. If you have had metal fragments in your eyes at any time, please let us know.
  6. If you are pregnant, breast feeding, or experiencing a late menstrual period, please let us know.
  7. You must remove all body piercing jewelry. Please bring your own tools to assist you in the removal or your jewelry. We cannot remove your jewelry or provide tools to you.
  8. If you are claustrophobic, please discuss possible medication with your physician prior to scheduling your appointment. Most patients with claustrophobia do fine without medication in our magnet; however, if your claustrophobia is severe, you may want something to calm your fears. If you do take medication during the procedure, please make arrangements for someone else to drive you home.
  9. When you arrive for your appointment, please inform the technologist if you have any of the following:
    • Aneurysm clips
    • Cardiac pacemaker
    • Implanted cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)
    • Any electronic implant or magnetically activated implant or device
    • Neurostimulator
    • Spinal cord stimulator
    • Internal electrodes or wires
    • Bone growth stimulator
    • Bone fusion stimulator
    • Cochlear, otologic, or other ear implant
    • Insulin or infusion pump,
    • Any type of prosthesis—eye, penile, etc.
    • Heart valve prosthesis
    • Eyelid spring or wire
    • Metallic stent
    • Filter or coil
    • Shunt of any kind
    • Vascular access port and/or catheter

In summary, if you have had anything implanted or any surgery at any time, please inform the technologist. We must know this information for your safety.
