Minimally Invasive Surgery

The Department of Neurosurgery strongly supports the use of minimally invasive surgery when appropriate. Some patients will need complex, highly-invasive surgical procedures. If possible, however, we try to avoid this. We feel that patients recover much quicker and more completely when treated with smaller, focused operations. We use the most modern surgical operating microscopes in our surgical procedures, which allows us to use small surgical incisions while maintaining the best possible visualization. Optimal visualization naturally decreases the chances of a surgical complication. Our patients generally become active and resume their normal work and leisure activities more quickly than patients who have invasive surgery.
